1. Before we move on to yesterday’s guitar orgy at Capsule & 12th Fret, here are a few more from Tuesday night guitar shopping this week at the Burlington (near Toronto, Canada) Long & McQuade store:

    1. A beautiful, used, 2004 Gretsch something or other (remember…I haven’t yet learned the different Gretsch models, so I don’t know exactly what this is.  It says “Nashville” on the ‘guard, so I will call it the Gretsch “Memphis”.   Just to p*ss people off.  It’s just my “way”).  :D
    2. The top of the line Gretsches are made in Japan.  This “Memphis” model (see above for more on how this model got its name…from me!) was under 7 lbs, and in VG to Excellent shape for a 9 year old guitar.  At $1999 it seems like an OK deal…but I am not an expert on the value of used Gretsches…so don’t quote me!
    3. I love small acoustic guitars…this new Gibson LG2 was cool looking and fairly cheap (for a Gibson acoustic) at just under $2,000.  Sadly, it suffered from an issue that affects many smaller-bodied guitars: very little low and mid-range tone.  It’s SO HARD to find a small-bodied acoustic that sounds warm and rich!
    4. Speaking of good looking Gibson acoustics, I love the binding on this Jumbo.  Hate the gigantic bloated round body, but love that headstock binding!
    5. The Jumbo mentioned above is 3 guitars back, on the left here along a new model I had not seen before called an “AJ-200” (and I gather that “AJ” stands for “Advanced Jumbo”).
    6. There were 2 AJ-200s in stock - the one behind was ~$2500 in “vintage sunburst” finish.  The one in front was ~$3,000 and I think the colour was called “amberburst”, although this is not listed on the Gibson website as an available colour…so not sure how that works. It’s hard to see in the photo but there was a clear difference in the colour of the darker spray around the edge of the top…on the “amberburst” model it was visibly lighter than on the “vintage sunburst model behind it.  Love the rosewood sides too!
